Report: Leicester Faces Major Setback in £25m Pursuit of Juventus Star

Leicester City’s ambitions to secure Juventus winger Matias Soule have encountered a major setback, as AS Roma takes a dominant lead in the competition for the promising young player.

According to TEAMtalk, the Italian club is in advanced discussions and is poised to finalize the deal, despite Leicester’s vigorous efforts in the transfer market.

At just 21, Matias Soule has garnered considerable attention from top European clubs. His recent loan spell at Frosinone was particularly impressive, where he scored 11 goals in 39 games, demonstrating his capability to excel at a high level.

Such performances have significantly raised his profile and triggered a competitive bidding war for his services.

Roma’s upper hand in the negotiations is due to several factors. Firstly, Soule’s agent favors a move to Roma due to a more lucrative commission structure. Additionally, TEAMtalk reports that Soule himself prefers to remain in Italy, complicating matters for Leicester City’s management.

The winger has already agreed on personal terms with Roma, with only the transfer fee left to be settled with Juventus. Roma is ready to meet Juventus’s asking price of €30 million, including bonuses, positioning them advantageously.

Despite Leicester’s initial £21 million bid and direct negotiations in Turin, their chances are waning as the transfer story unfolds. Juventus’s insistence on a £25.2 million upfront payment without add-ons limits Leicester’s opportunities.

Meanwhile, Roma’s structured offer is more likely to be accepted by Juventus, who aim to raise funds for other summer targets, such as Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners, also linked with Liverpool.

Future Steps for Leicester City

With the potential loss of Soule, Leicester City and their new manager, Steve Cooper, must refocus their strategy.

Cooper mentioned after training in France that the club is determined to strengthen the squad and is actively seeking other potential signings to bolster their lineup for the upcoming season.

As they navigate this setback, Leicester remains committed to enhancing their team and pursuing new opportunities in the transfer market.
