West Ham United remain in the hunt to sign Portuguese winger Jota Silva from Vitoria de Guimaraes.
The Hammers have been monitoring Silva throughout the summer and now find themselves in a strong position to secure his services before the transfer window closes.
According to Portuguese publication Record, Silva’s departure from Vitoria is imminent, with West Ham currently leading the race for his signature.
The East London club is seeking a right-footed left winger following Said Benrahma’s move to Lyon, and Silva’s profile fits their needs perfectly.
The 24-year-old winger had an outstanding season in the Primeira Liga, scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.
His impressive form has garnered significant praise, with many believing he was unlucky to miss out on Portugal’s 2024 European Championship squad.
Silva combines pace, shooting ability, and technical skill, making him a significant attacking threat. With just 12 months remaining on his contract, Vitoria are under pressure to sell this summer to avoid losing him for free next year. They have set his price at a reasonable £8 million.
West Ham have already enhanced their squad this summer with the signings of Max Kilman from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras.
Adding Silva would further strengthen their attacking options as they aim to improve on their ninth-place finish last season.
In addition to Silva, West Ham is also considering a move for Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville. The decision may come down to whether they pursue Silva or Summerville.
While Summerville has shown promise and has experience in England, Silva may be the better option. He is more affordable and fits Julen Lopetegui’s possession-based style of play, excelling in tight spaces crucial for breaking down compact defenses.
Silva could also serve as a valuable rotational option behind Lucas Paqueta, providing depth and competition.
