Wolves Looking to Sign Ex-Aston Villa and West Brom Player, with Interest from Leicester City and Southampton

Aston Villa is gearing up for the upcoming season with Champions League football on the horizon.

Meanwhile, Wolves are preparing for Gary O’Neil’s second year as manager, following a 14th-place finish last season. Here’s a roundup of the latest news and rumors concerning both teams:

Aston Villa is reportedly interested in Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix, though there has been no formal offer from the Midlands club yet, according to Fabrizio Romano on X.

The interest is still in its early stages. Felix, 24, has been with Atletico Madrid since 2019, following his transfer from Benfica. He has spent the last two seasons on loan at Chelsea and Barcelona, and his future remains uncertain.

In pre-season news, Cameron Archer has returned to Villa Park after his loan spell at Sheffield United. He is currently with Unai Emery’s squad in the U.S. for pre-season training. The team recently played a friendly against MLS side Columbus Crew, losing 4-1.

After the match, Archer commented on the team’s performance, stating, “They’re a very good team. We need to learn, progress, and keep getting fitter. We’ve got new players, and we need to build chemistry on the pitch.

We need to develop those relationships and understand each player’s strengths. It’s pre-season, and that’s part and parcel of it.”

Archer managed to score against Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field and is targeting more goals in upcoming fixtures against RB Leipzig and Club America.

On the other hand, Wolves are looking to strengthen their goalkeeping options and are interested in Sam Johnstone of Crystal Palace.

According to Alan Nixon on his Patreon page, Wolves face competition from Leicester City, Nottingham Forest, Southampton, and Bournemouth for Johnstone’s signature. The goalkeeper has been with Crystal Palace since his move from London in 2022.

Johnstone began his career at Manchester United but did not make a first-team appearance. He was loaned out to various clubs, including Scunthorpe United, Walsall, Yeovil Town, Doncaster Rovers, Preston North End, and Aston Villa.

Johnstone, who has four caps for England, had two loan spells at Villa Park, playing 70 games.

West Bromwich Albion signed him permanently in 2018, where he spent four years before joining Crystal Palace. Now, Wolves are eyeing him as they seek to add new talent to their squad.
