Report: Leicester City Targeting Experienced Attacker with 274 Premier League Appearances, Potentially Available Cheap
Following their promotion to the Premier League, Leicester City have been revamping their squad for the upcoming campaign.
Steve Cooper has replaced Enzo Maresca as the manager at the King Power Stadium, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall followed Maresca to Chelsea.
Leicester are looking to strengthen their midfield, with Arthur Melo of Juventus and Matias Soule among the potential targets.
Additionally, the departure of Kelechi Iheanacho means Leicester may need to sign another striker during the current transfer window.
Leicester are targeting four key areas this summer, with a center-forward being one of the primary positions to fill.
A potential target for this role is Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew.
Leicester City bid for Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew
Leicester aims to avoid relegation in the 2024/25 season and will need experienced players to achieve this goal.
One player who could assist Cooper and the team is Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew.
Cooper and Ayew briefly crossed paths in the summer of 2019 when Cooper joined Swansea City and Ayew was sold to Palace.
They could now work together properly in the upcoming season, following an update from Alan Nixon on his Patreon.
Nixon reports that Leicester is making a firm bid for the veteran striker, who may struggle for minutes under Oliver Glasner in 2024/25.
Ayew, who is in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, is 32 years old and has 274 Premier League appearances to date.
The Ghanaian joined Palace on a free transfer, and Nixon claims this means Leicester may not need to make a high bid to sign him.
Will Jordan Ayew improve Leicester City attack?
Leicester finished the 2023/24 season with 89 Championship goals – the second-most in the division behind Ipswich Town.
However, the Foxes’ attacking threat has diminished over the last month or so.
Iheanacho, who scored six goals and provided three assists, has left the club on a free transfer.
Dewsbury-Hall, Leicester’s third-top scorer with 12 goals and the most assists last term (15), is also gone.
Cooper is currently relying on a 37-year-old Jamie Vardy and an out-of-form Patson Daka to provide the majority of Leicester’s goals in the upcoming season.
Given Vardy’s age, he is unlikely to complete a full 38-game campaign, and Daka is not good enough to be a regular number nine in the top flight.
While Ayew may be available for cheap and has extensive Premier League experience, he is probably not the best signing for the Foxes.
Ayew has just 37 league goals in 274 outings and scored only four times for the Eagles in 2023/24.
