Neil Warnock suggests Everton should part ways with Dominic Calvert-Lewin amid rumors of a Goodison Park exit.
Everton are eager to retain their 27-year-old forward and are working on a new contract, according to TEAMtalk.
However, Newcastle United might revisit their interest after having an earlier bid rejected this summer [Liverpool Echo].
Calvert-Lewin enjoyed a strong finish to the 2023/24 season, which was crucial in securing Everton’s Premier League status, though he scored just seven league goals overall.
On Thursday, August 8, Warnock commented on talkSPORT: “As the manager, I’d let him go. They shouldn’t be overly greedy about the fee. They’ll try to maximize their return, but he’s served his time and deserves a fresh start.
He’s a good player but hasn’t been able to demonstrate his best. If a player isn’t happy, it affects their performance. He’s likely eager for a change.”
If Newcastle renew their pursuit of the attacker, it might present an opportunity Everton can’t afford to miss this summer.
The Toffees risk losing Calvert-Lewin as a free agent next summer, missing out on a potentially substantial fee that could impact the club’s finances.
Since joining Goodison Park in 2016, Calvert-Lewin has scored 68 goals in 247 appearances. While not a prolific record, it’s odd to imagine Everton without him.
His frequent injuries have limited his potential output, but if Newcastle’s offer is significant, it could be used to strengthen other areas of the squad.
With the transfer deadline looming, Everton must decide on Calvert-Lewin’s future and whether they need to secure a replacement before August 30.
