“Fabrizio Romano Provides Everton Transfer Update: Movement Expected for Premier League Player”
On his Playback TV show on 9 August, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano suggested that Kalvin Phillips is likely to depart Manchester City in the current transfer window, with Everton being the primary club interested.
Sean Dyche, Everton’s manager, believes he can rejuvenate the 28-year-old midfielder’s career after Phillips’ disappointing loan spell at West Ham last season led to him losing his spot with the England national team [Mirror, 28 May]. Romano mentioned, “There is interest from Everton in Kalvin Phillips.
Not just Everton, but there could be other movements for him in the coming weeks as he is still expected to leave Manchester City” [22m 20s].
Phillips’ future at the Etihad seems bleak since Pep Guardiola has rarely utilized him, and his form has declined without regular play since leaving Leeds United.
Despite Phillips being reportedly keen to join Dyche at Goodison Park if a deal can be agreed upon [TEAMtalk, 22 July], Everton prefers a loan arrangement, whereas Manchester City is looking to sell him outright.
Following Amadou Onana’s transfer to Aston Villa, Everton is in need of a replacement in midfield.
Initially, they seemed to be in a strong position to sign Amir Richardson from Reims [L’Equipe, 7 August], but Fiorentina has since accepted a bid for him [Gianluca Di Marzio, 8 August].
