West Ham Secure Wan-Bissaka on Seven-Year Deal Amid Ongoing Summer Spending Spree
Wan-Bissaka Becomes West Ham’s Eighth Senior Signing This Summer as Club Supports New Head Coach Julen Lopetegui
West Ham United have finalized a £15 million deal to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United, awarding the right-back a seven-year contract.
At 26, Wan-Bissaka becomes the eighth senior addition to West Ham’s squad amid a significant overhaul following Julen Lopetegui’s appointment as head coach.
Wan-Bissaka’s long-term contract mirrors the one given to Max Kilman, 27, who joined West Ham on a seven-year deal after his £40 million move from Wolves earlier this summer.
The club has also secured new striker Niclas Fullkrug, 31, on a four-year deal as part of his £27 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund, ensuring his commitment until his mid-thirties.
Wan-Bissaka’s arrival provides Lopetegui with a dynamic and robust right-back option, setting up competition with Vladimir Coufal for the starting spot.
This move marks a return to London for Wan-Bissaka, who started his career at Crystal Palace before his £50 million transfer to United in 2019.
“It was a no-brainer for me to join West Ham – I’m excited and happy to be here,” Wan-Bissaka stated. “It’s an amazing feeling to be back in London, and I’m excited for what’s coming.
I was born here, so I know the ins and outs of London, which plays a big part in my life. To be back playing in this city means a lot to me.”
Tim Steidten, West Ham’s technical director, added: “He’s exactly the type of player we’re looking to attract to this club in the prime years of his career.
He’s an incredibly talented defender who we rate very highly – superb in one-on-one situations. He’s versatile too, which is clearly another positive.”
West Ham’s summer spending now totals approximately £130 million, offset by sales around £40 million.
In addition to Kilman, Wan-Bissaka, and Fullkrug, West Ham has also signed Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United for £25 million, Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras for £25 million, Guido Rodríguez on a free transfer from Real Betis, Jean-Clair Todibo on loan from Nice, and goalkeeper Wes Foderingham on a free transfer from Sheffield United.
