Julen Lopetegui has announced the West Ham starting lineup for today's Premier League match against Crystal Palace.
The West Ham starting lineup chosen by Julen Lopetegui seems quite puzzling to me, and getting a positive result against Crystal Palace may now be more challenging.
West Ham lost their Premier League opener against Aston Villa last weekend, while Palace also suffered a defeat away at Brentford.
Lopetegui will be eager for his side to secure a result against the Eagles today, but he’ll also want to see a more cohesive performance from his players.
Personally, I’d like to see better patterns of play through the middle and more bravery from our defenders when playing out from the back.
Additionally, I’m hoping for a more organized and aggressive press from the front.
I believe we need to take the game to Palace today because I think they are vulnerable.
West Ham Starting Lineup vs Crystal Palace Announced
In a surprising decision, Lopetegui has made no changes to the lineup from last week’s defeat to Aston Villa.
I would have preferred to see Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Niclas Fullkrug introduced at a minimum.
Here is West Ham’s lineup for today’s match at Selhurst Park, as confirmed by the club’s official X account:
Alphonse Areola, Vladimir Coufal, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Max Kilman, Emerson Palmieri, Tomas Soucek, Guido Rodriguez, Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio.
This lineup is quite disappointing, in my opinion. Lopetegui has opted for a lackluster starting XI, although it is still up to the players to deliver.
Crystal Palace are currently in a state of turmoil, with Joachim Andersen moving to Fulham and Jordan Ayew transferring to Leicester City.
Furthermore, key player Marc Guehi’s future at Selhurst Park is highly uncertain, and John Textor is reportedly looking to sell his stake in the club to finance a bid to buy Everton.
Given the uncertainty at Crystal Palace, the responsibility falls on the West Ham players in the starting lineup to capitalize on the situation and worsen the outlook for the South London team.
However, the lineup selection remains a letdown to me.
