However, their efforts have been met with frustration so far.

Earlier this week, Leeds made a £13 million bid for the player, which Sheffield United rejected. Reports indicated that Leeds might not submit a second offer.

Despite this setback, news from the Netherlands suggested that Hamer has agreed to personal terms for a potential move, with the only hurdle remaining being an agreement on the transfer fee.

Following Sheffield United’s defeat at Barnsley, manager Chris Wilder expressed uncertainty over whether Leeds would pursue the 27-year-old again. Wilder appeared visibly frustrated with Leeds’ approach.

Hamer’s Position on a Leeds Move

Hamer has clearly been on Leeds United’s radar for a while, as they attempted to sign him last summer as well.

Sheffield United, however, won the race at that time due to their Premier League status.

Now, with Sheffield United back in the Championship, Leeds are hopeful of securing the player on their second attempt.

Leeds have been informed that they need to increase their offer by an additional £5 million. According to Give Me Sport, the club’s ownership group, the 49ers, are now “poised” to make a second bid.

Importantly, the report also mentions that Leeds believe Hamer is interested in moving to West Yorkshire, which significantly boosts their chances of signing him.

If Hamer has shown a willingness to join Leeds behind the scenes, there is no reason for the club not to submit another bid.

He is precisely the type of midfielder that manager Daniel Farke is looking for, having already scored twice in three league matches this season.

Chris Wilder’s Comments on Hamer

Chris Wilder was visibly upset about Leeds’ initial £13 million offer earlier this week. If the latest reports are accurate, he may become even more frustrated.

In his post-match comments, Wilder praised Hamer’s performance, saying:

“I thought Gus Hamer was outstanding. We had a chat with Gus; obviously, there’s been speculation about him, but he showed the energy and urgency I’m after, and he lit the game up.

He picked up the ball, drove forward, and had about three shots in ten minutes—we need that urgency in our play.

When asked if Leeds might make another bid, Wilder responded, “I don’t know. I really don’t know what they’re thinking. Everyone knows what the bid is.

They’ve brought in £120 million and are trying to snatch our player for what the bid is.

I don’t know what it was supposed to do, but it hasn’t done anything, and it hasn’t affected Gus from his point of view.”
