Leeds United’s pursuit of Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing has hit a snag after the player expressed his desire to remain in the Premier League, as reported by The Mirror.
The Yorkshire club has been looking to strengthen their squad in the final days of the transfer window, focusing particularly on a midfielder.
This search became a priority for manager Daniel Farke following the sales of Archie Gray and Glen Kamara earlier in the summer.
Among the names linked with a move to Elland Road is Bournemouth’s Philip Billing.
The midfielder, who still has three years left on his contract at the Vitality Stadium, is reportedly not in the plans of Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola.
However, despite his uncertain future at the club, the Denmark international is not keen on moving to the Championship.
Leeds is one of three Championship clubs interested in Billing.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, Leeds and Burnley were both exploring a deal for the central midfielder as the transfer window neared its end.
It was initially reported that Sheffield United was leading the race to secure his services.
However, in a recent update, Yorkshire-based journalist David Anderson, writing for The Mirror, revealed that all three clubs have faced a setback because Billing does not want to leave the Premier League.
Aside from Billing, Leeds is also targeting Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer.
The club had a £13 million bid rejected but remains interested and is exploring alternative options, including Dusseldorf’s Japan international Ao Tanaka.
Despite the initial rejection for Hamer, sources from GIVEMESPORT have indicated that the box-to-box midfielder is open to joining Leeds, and personal terms are not expected to be a stumbling block.
Additionally, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that Leeds is interested in signing Freiburg attacker Roland Sallai before the transfer window closes, with significant business anticipated before the deadline on Friday, August 30th, at 11 pm.
Leeds is also reportedly eyeing a move for West Ham striker Danny Ings.
According to Darren Witcoop, Ings has become a potential target as Farke looks to strengthen his squad for a promotion push in the 2024/25 Championship season.
With West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui deeming Ings surplus to requirements and Leeds having sold players like Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter this summer, bringing in a proven goalscorer like Ings could address Leeds’ scoring concerns.
