Leicester City outcast denied a move on transfer deadline day
A Leicester City star was blocked from leaving the club after being priced out of a move.
The Foxes were relatively quiet during the transfer deadline, making only one signing by bringing in Odsonne Edouard on loan.
While several young players left on loan, Leicester City hoped to receive offers for one of their surplus players, but no deals came through.
It’s now been disclosed that one player who wanted to leave the King Power Stadium was priced out of a move.
Leicester City Block Transfer for Unhappy Star
According to Alan Nixon, the player in question was Daniel Iversen.
The 27-year-old has been relegated to a third-choice goalkeeper position and spent the latter half of the 2023-2024 season on loan at Stoke City.
In his Patreon column, Nixon revealed that several Championship clubs expressed interest in the Danish goalkeeper, but Leicester City held firm on their high asking price.
He explained, “Leicester City slapped a big price tag on keeper Daniel Iversen on deadline day – and cost him a move.
Iversen had been available for £1.5m as his deal ran out and his first-team chances remain slim.
However, when the Foxes had an inquiry on the last day, that value hiked up to £4m, and that put off buyers.”
Leicester Must Sell to Buy in January Transfer Window
Though it’s early to predict Leicester City’s strategy for the January transfer window, one thing is clear: the Foxes will need to sell before they can buy.
Boubakary Soumare is likely to be among the top candidates to leave during the winter break.
Despite interest in the French midfielder, no substantial offers were made, with his reported £90,000-a-week wage proving a stumbling block.
Steve Cooper might feel the need to explore the transfer market again to strengthen Leicester’s chances of Premier League survival.
Even if selling fringe players like Iversen only generates modest funds, it would be better than having no additional resources at all.
