‘Premier League Wages’ – Journalist Reveals Why Leeds Attacker Didn’t Secure Elland Road Exit

The 22-year-old forward has not started a league game for Leeds United in over a year and has only made a brief cameo appearance as a last-minute substitute against Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.

Many pundits and fans expected the young attacker to leave Elland Road before the new season.

However, journalist Graeme Bailey has pointed out that Joe Gelhardt remains on Premier League wages, which has complicated a potential exit.

Speaking to “Leeds United News”(6 September), Bailey said, “He’s still at Leeds because he’s being paid far too much.

He’s on Premier League wages. He might play a role, but I don’t see it happening much between now and January.

Not that you wish anyone ill, but ideally, he won’t be needed.”

Why Didn’t Joe Gelhardt Leave Leeds United in the Summer Transfer Window?

It’s clear that Gelhardt isn’t favored by manager Daniel Farke or the current leadership at Leeds, despite being highly regarded earlier in his career.

Although he hasn’t had many opportunities to impress under Farke, when he has played, he hasn’t shown enough to justify a regular starting spot in the Championship.

Ideally, Leeds would have found a way to move him off their wage bill before the summer transfer window closed on 30 August.

However, doing so is difficult due to his high wages, which few Championship clubs would be willing to match.

Additionally, Gelhardt has yet to prove himself as a consistent performer in the second tier of English football.

Leeds will likely explore other solutions in the January transfer window, as they won’t want to keep paying a player who clearly isn’t a key part of Farke’s plans.
