Wales Online, giving Ampadu a 6/10 rating, commented on 9 September: “Made some decent contributions defensively, but wasn’t as influential as normal.”
Y Clwb Pel Droed agreed with the rating, noting: “Ampadu gave away possession in difficult conditions and struggled at times with Jovetic dropping into midfield.
He worked hard defensively when Wales were under pressure and helped the side get over the line.”
Leeds United star Ampadu contributed to Wales’ victory, but the dreadful weather conditions in Montenegro limited the team’s ability to showcase their skills.
Given these challenges, it’s understandable why Ampadu, a key midfielder, wasn’t able to influence the game as much as usual, especially with Bellamy’s side opting for a more direct approach.
Additionally, Ampadu was partnered with Ollie Cooper in midfield, a Swansea City player with just three international caps, making his role even more demanding.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke will be relieved to see Ampadu return to Elland Road unscathed, especially as Connor Roberts was substituted before halftime due to the harsh weather conditions.
While Ampadu’s performance was mixed, earning another international cap adds valuable experience, which he’ll bring back to Leeds.
