Leeds United receive potential boost as key player ‘open’ to signing contract extension
The 28-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, but he is arguably in his strongest position yet at Elland Road.
Firpo has found his form in West Yorkshire, earning the trust of manager Daniel Farke and securing the left-back position as his own.
According to TEAMtalk, Firpo is open to extending his stay at Leeds beyond the summer of 2025.
However, he is keen to understand the club’s ambitions before making any commitment, though he is reportedly settled in West Yorkshire with his family.
In the past, the defender has been linked with a return to his former club, Real Betis.
If an agreement with Leeds is not reached, it’s believed he would consider a move back to Spain.
Firpo joined Leeds from Barcelona in the summer of 2021, brought in to be the club’s first-choice left-back after midfielders primarily filled the role during the 2020/21 season.
His transition to the Premier League wasn’t without challenges, as he initially struggled with the league’s intensity.
However, Firpo now appears to have adapted to English football, becoming a key attacking threat in Farke’s system.
