Abdul Fatawu Undergoes Surgery in Significant Leicester City Injury Setback

Leicester City have been dealt a significant setback as winger Abdul Fatawu announced he has undergone knee surgery.

Fatawu left Ghana’s national team early after being substituted in the first half of their 1-1 draw with Angola last Friday.

He was later seen wearing a brace on his right knee. Now, he has confirmed the surgery via social media, posting from a hospital bed.

Details of the injury and his recovery timeline are expected to be revealed by Leicester manager Steve Cooper during Thursday’s press conference.

However, the news of surgery for the 20-year-old is undoubtedly a major blow to the club’s ambitions this season.

On social media, Fatawu shared an update along with an image showing heavy strapping on his knee: “My surgery was successful.

I’m feeling good and want to thank everyone for their best wishes.”

Several Leicester players, including Wilfred Ndidi, Hamza Choudhury, Kasey McAteer, Bilal El Khannouss, Caleb Okoli, and Will Alves, sent messages of support.

Fatawu, a well-liked member of the squad, will be sorely missed at Seagrave during his recovery.

He added, “It’s great to have teammates like this. Their positive energy before the surgery meant a lot to me. Love you all. I’ll come back stronger.”

This injury could force Leicester to adjust their January transfer plans, especially as fellow Ghanaian Jordan Ayew also returned early from international duty.

The Black Stars’ medical team reported Ayew has a “significant” knee injury, raising further concerns for the club.
