Tottenham Hotspur are considering re-signing Marcus Edwards to address their shortage of homegrown players, according to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold.
A few days ago, Correio da Manha (via Sport Witness) reported that Spurs are interested in bringing Edwards back, six years after he left the club. The report indicated that the Sporting Lisbon star is eager to return to England this summer, and Tottenham could benefit from a discount due to their 35 percent sell-on clause on the player.
Gold has confirmed this information, noting that Spurs are exploring options to ensure they meet homegrown player requirements. Edwards is seen as a potential addition to bolster their attack. Although Tottenham has not made a formal move for the 25-year-old, the winger would be ‘happy’ to rejoin his former club.
Gold also mentions that Crystal Palace is another English club showing interest in Edwards. Sporting Lisbon values the attacker at around £15 million, but Tottenham could potentially acquire him for approximately £9.7 million due to their sell-on clause.
While Edwards had a decent 2023-24 season, there are doubts about whether he can consistently perform as a starter for a top-four Premier League team. However, the 25-year-old could be a valuable squad player.
