**ALPENA** — Students in Alpena Public Schools (APS) from grades six through ten are set to experience a transformative change in their math education next fall. The APS Board of Education has unanimously approved the adoption of the Savvas enVision Mathematics and SuccessMaker curricula, marking a significant investment of $249,047.36 over the next five years.
“I would like to thank again publicly the committee that worked on this curriculum,” APS Board President Anna Meinhardt said. “The teachers, community members, board members, and staff—thank you for that.”
This decision follows an informative presentation on the curriculum during the board’s monthly workshop on May 13. APS instructional coach Melissa Jarema detailed the thorough process the committee undertook to select the new math curriculum. The committee evaluated multiple options before deciding that Savvas enVision Mathematics and SuccessMaker were the best fit for the district’s needs.
According to Jarema, one of the standout features of the Savvas curriculum is its accessibility and support for both students and teachers. The curriculum includes professional development videos and classroom resources that teachers can use to enhance their planning and instructional strategies.
“For teacher planning, there are videos for professional development,” Jarema explained. “Actual videos in the classroom that teachers can use as a jumping-off point.”
The board’s approval of the $249,047.36 quote secures the Savvas curriculum for the next five years, aiming to provide a robust and interactive learning experience. This move is expected to not only enhance the educational journey of APS students but also support teachers in delivering high-quality instruction.
