Everton Fans Were Full of Optimism When Jesper Lindstrom Joined on Loan from Napoli This Summer
The Denmark international endured a challenging year in Naples after joining Napoli from Eintracht Frankfurt in August 2023.
A fresh start on Merseyside seemed the ideal solution for all parties involved.
For Jesper Lindstrøm, it offered a chance to showcase his abilities in the Premier League. For Everton, it meant adding a much-needed attacking option to a squad with limited depth in that area.
The inclusion of a reported £20 million purchase option in the loan deal (as reported by Liverpool Echo on 1 December) seemed pragmatic, especially given Everton’s well-known financial difficulties.
However, things have not gone as planned for the 24-year-old.
Lindstrøm has started only six Premier League games, made four additional appearances as a substitute, failed to score, and is yet to register an assist.
Now, following Alan Myers’ post on X on Sunday (8 December), it appears Everton may have already decided against triggering the purchase option.
When asked if Everton were likely to engage in transfer activity during the January window, the Sky Sports journalist responded: “Depends on a couple of things, to be honest, but I would think defence and winger would be likely.”
This suggests Everton may already be looking beyond Lindstrøm.
The Toffees also brought Jack Harrison back on loan from Leeds United during the summer, but his future at the club remains uncertain.
Reports of Sean Dyche targeting another wide player do not bode well for either Lindstrøm or Harrison.
It seems unlikely Everton will commit a significant sum to a player who has struggled to make an impact, even if the Friedkin Group takeover proceeds smoothly.
While there is still time for Lindstrøm to turn things around, it currently seems probable that Everton will opt not to make his loan deal permanent.
