Tottenham Face Scheduling Dilemma Ahead of Potential Europa League Final
Tottenham Hotspur could face a significant scheduling issue if they progress to the UEFA Europa League final, with their domestic fixture calendar offering little time to prepare for the prestigious event.
Spurs are currently set to travel to Villa Park to face Aston Villa on May 18, just three days before the Europa League final, which is scheduled to take place at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao on May 21.
Reports suggest that the North London club has approached the Premier League with a request to move the match to an earlier date to allow for more adequate preparation time.
However, Aston Villa have reportedly rejected the idea of rescheduling the fixture.
Postecoglou Addresses Fixture Congestion
Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou acknowledged the difficulty of the situation but expressed his willingness to let the governing bodies handle the matter.
He also pointed out that other European leagues accommodate teams involved in major continental competitions by allowing them more flexibility in scheduling.
Speaking to Football.London, Postecoglou said:
“I haven’t looked too deeply into it. I don’t know what sort of precedent there is. I know other leagues do it, which makes sense for a European final. I’ll leave it to the powers that be and focus on getting us there first.”

Postecoglou made it clear he won’t underestimate them:
“Bodo are here on merit. They’ve beaten top teams. It doesn’t matter where you’re from; we’ll treat them with respect and give everything.”
He also acknowledged the absence of Patrick Berg for Bodo/Glimt as a loss but emphasized the team’s collective strength:
“They’ve lost key players in recent years but continue to perform. That says a lot about their structure and spirit.”
