Ange Postecoglou confirmed that Richarlison sustained a calf injury during our Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday night.
The striker pulled up, clutching the back of his right leg after chasing a long ball late in the first half.
Following treatment, he was forced off and replaced by debutant Mathys Tel. At that stage, we were already behind 1-0, with Cody Gakpo scoring in the 34th minute to level the tie on aggregate.
Mo Salah’s 51st-minute penalty put Liverpool ahead, and further goals from Dominik Szoboszlai (75) and Virgil van Dijk (80) sealed a 4-1 aggregate defeat.
Postecoglou’s Reaction

Speaking at Anfield, Ange said: “It looks like Richy’s calf, so that’s another player added to the list. It is what it is.
We’ll dust ourselves off. We have a big game at Villa on Sunday, and we want to stay in that competition.
The boys will be motivated after tonight to go out and put in a strong performance.”
We face Aston Villa in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday at 5:35 pm(UK).
