Antonio Conte Reflects on His Time at Tottenham: ‘I Can’t Do Miracles’

Antonio Conte Explains Why He Sees His Time at Tottenham as a Success Despite the Disappointing End

Early Success Followed by Collapse

Antonio Conte’s first season at Tottenham sparked excitement, as he took over from Nuno Espirito Santo and transformed a struggling team into one of the Premier League’s most formidable.

By the end of the 2021-22 season, Spurs were ruthlessly efficient, ultimately securing Champions League qualification over their North London rivals.

However, after a promising start to the 2022-23 season, things took a sharp downturn for Spurs, leading to Conte’s departure in March 2023.

Conte Reflects on His Time at Tottenham

Despite the disappointing end, Conte remains firm in his belief that he performed well with the Lilywhites.

Reflecting on his time at Tottenham, the 55-year-old noted that guiding the team to a top-four finish from their initial ninth position was a significant achievement, emphasizing that he couldn’t perform “miracles.”

After Napoli’s recent victory over AC Milan, Conte stated to DAZN, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano, “I think I did very, very well at Spurs.

I arrived with the squad in 9th position and we qualified for the Champions League. I’m sure I did the best job possible for Tottenham. I can’t do miracles.”

The Collapse and Legacy at Spurs

Though opinions may vary on what caused Conte’s downfall, it’s undeniable that his tenure ended unsuccessfully, with Tottenham finishing in eighth place in the 2022-23 season.

His recent successes with Napoli shouldn’t overshadow his difficulties at Tottenham, as the Premier League’s high level of competition proved challenging.

Conte’s tactical approach was eventually neutralized by opposing teams, and his inability to adapt contributed to his exit.

This tactical struggle may explain why Conte has not been linked with top managerial roles in England since leaving Spurs, underscoring the challenges he faced and the lessons learned during his time at the club.
