Arsenal Reverse Course on Alexander Isak Transfer – A Move Newcastle Fans Will Appreciate

Reports surfaced last night that Arsenal made a late move for England international Ollie Watkins just hours before Aston Villa’s Champions League clash with Celtic.

The Gunners have been searching for a striker since last summer, with Mikel Arteta confirming their efforts to secure a signing—though he did not mention Watkins by name.

Arsenal have faced criticism for lacking a natural goalscorer, with Kai Havertz often playing as a false No.9.

The club has frequently been linked with Newcastle United’s prolific forward Alexander Isak.

However, with more than three years remaining on his contract, Newcastle are in a strong position to keep Isak.

The Telegraph previously reported that any potential suitor would need to pay at least £150 million for the Swedish striker.

That hefty price tag has deterred Arsenal, and if Newcastle secure Champions League qualification, they will be even better positioned to negotiate new terms with Isak.

As a result, the Gunners are now shifting their focus to Watkins, who scored, assisted, and missed a penalty in Villa’s recent victory.

Unai Emery has expressed his desire to keep the 29-year-old, particularly with Jhon Duran set to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr for £70 million.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Villa Park and is scheduled for a medical in London today.

“I don’t want to sell him,” Emery told reporters. “It’s good news that other clubs are interested, but we want to maintain our sporting objectives with the players we have.

“Every player has a price if the deal benefits both the club and the player, but we will be demanding. Watkins is our striker.”
