Leeds Propose £12,500-a-Week, Three-Year Deal for £5.9m Midfielder – Report
Leeds United Have Proposed a Three-Year Deal for Dejan Ljubicic but Haven’t Met FC Koln’s £5.9 Million Price, Reports Schoner Schrank Palm.
A German transfer insider, who has reported on FC Koln this summer and is followed by Sky Sports Germany, announced on X (22 August) that Leeds United offered Austrian midfielder Dejan Ljubicic a three-year contract worth £1.95 million in total, equivalent to £12,500 per week. However, Koln is still demanding £5.9 million for the 26-year-old, while United’s initial offer was below £2.6 million as they sought a replacement for the departed Glen Kamara.
Leeds United has not yet made a new offer for Ljubicic, despite Koln’s reluctance to extend the midfielder’s contract and Ljubicic’s recent appointment of a new agent.
When Leeds made their initial bid for Ljubicic on 25 July, there was high optimism for the upcoming Championship season with over a month remaining in the transfer window.
However, since then, the atmosphere at Elland Road has shifted dramatically.
No new signings were made between Jayden Bogle on 20 July and Largie Ramazani from Almeria on 22 August.
Additionally, two key players, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter, moved to the Premier League, leaving Leeds short on attacking options.
The club now has funds available and, given their interest in Ljubicic, they must act quickly if they want to secure the midfielder before the 30 August deadline.
Besides Ramazani and potentially two more attacking players [Sky Sports, 22 August], Daniel Farke is also seeking a midfielder like Ljubicic.
With time running out, he needs to push the club to meet Koln’s £5.9 million asking price.
