Birmingham City Urged to Sign Rangers Loanee Permanently as Promotion Race Heats Up

Birmingham City Urged to Secure Permanent Deal for Rangers Loanee Kieran Dowell

Kieran Dowell joined Birmingham City on loan in January after being deemed surplus to requirements at Rangers.

Since his arrival, he has made 14 appearances, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

Birmingham currently sit nine points clear at the top of League One, with two games in hand over second-placed Wrexham.

With promotion to the Championship in sight, former England international Lee Hendrie believes the club should sign Dowell permanently to strengthen their squad for the step up.

“They’re moving up to the Championship, and they’ll need players like Dowell,” Hendrie told Football League World.

“If they can maintain a strong squad capable of adapting to the Championship, he’s definitely someone they should consider keeping on a permanent basis.”

Hendrie emphasized the importance of squad depth, particularly in the Championship, where the fixture schedule is relentless.

“It’s been evident in League One as well—having a deep squad is crucial.

I believe Dowell has more to offer, and keeping him should be a priority.”

Rangers defender Ben Davies is also on loan at Birmingham and has been a key player at the back.

The centre-half has made 36 appearances this season, playing a vital role in the club’s push for promotion.
