Leeds United target Lukas Hornicek as solution to ongoing goalkeeping issues, reports MOT Leeds News
Daniel Farke’s patience with his goalkeeping options at Elland Road appears to be wearing thin after two inconsistent seasons, and securing a new first-choice goalkeeper is now emerging as a key objective for Leeds United ahead of the summer transfer window.
Reports indicate that the club have identified Braga’s promising 23-year-old shot-stopper Lukas Hornicek as a potential target.
The Czech goalkeeper has caught the attention of Leeds’ recruitment team following an impressive breakthrough campaign with the Portuguese side, where he has established himself as a reliable presence between the posts.
Hornicek remains under contract with Braga until 2028, which means the club are not under any immediate obligation to sanction a sale.
Nevertheless, Leeds could still be in a strong position to negotiate a deal, particularly as they aim to solidify their place in the Premier League.
It is also understood that Hornicek would be open to making the move to English football, further boosting Leeds’ chances of securing his signature.
From a performance standpoint, Hornicek appears to meet the criteria Leeds are seeking. The club require a goalkeeper who is not only comfortable in possession but, more importantly, dependable when it comes to preventing goals.
So far this season, he has recorded nine clean sheets in league competition, underlining his defensive reliability.
In addition, the 23-year-old has made 58 saves across 25 appearances, maintaining a solid save percentage of 69.9.
His distribution has also been a standout feature, with a pass completion rate of 78 per cent, highlighting his ability to contribute effectively to build-up play—an area where current options have struggled.
Meanwhile, Lucas Perri’s future at the club looks increasingly uncertain. The Brazilian has endured a difficult spell in the Premier League, reflected in his save percentage of just 56.7, placing him among the lower-performing goalkeepers in the division.
As a result, both Perri and Illan Meslier could be moved on if Leeds succeed in bringing in a new number one.
