Newcastle United have made it clear that they will not consider any offers below £100 million for midfielder Sandro Tonali this summer, according to sources close to the player’s camp.

Following the departure of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona in a deal worth £69.3 million, Newcastle’s hierarchy believe Tonali’s value has risen significantly.

Internally, they view the Italian as being worth at least as much as the figure reportedly attached to former Newcastle academy graduate Elliot Anderson by Nottingham Forest.

Tonali left Newcastle for his summer break without any firm plans regarding his future. While he is not actively pushing for a move away from St James’ Park, he understands the financial pressures facing the club.

Newcastle are continuing to manage squad finances under sustainability regulations, meaning player sales may be required before significant new signings can be made.

The midfielder is not the only high-profile player attracting interest. Full-back Tino Livramento remains a target for both Manchester City and Arsenal, while fellow defender Lewis Hall is reportedly being monitored by Manchester United.

All three players are viewed as valuable assets whose departures could generate substantial funds if necessary.

One thing Newcastle are determined to avoid is a repeat of the situation that unfolded in 2025 when striker Alexander Isak forced through a move to Liverpool after reportedly going on strike.

Club executives want any future transfer discussions to remain firmly under their control.

Chief executive David Hopkinson previously explained that Newcastle do not enter each summer with a fixed plan to sell players.

However, he stressed that if circumstances similar to the Isak saga arise again, the club will only sanction departures on terms that maximise value for Newcastle.

The Magpies are therefore in a strong negotiating position regarding Tonali. His current contract runs until 2029 and includes the option of an additional year, giving the club little pressure to negotiate.

Livramento remains under contract until 2028, while Hall is tied to Newcastle until 2029, although neither defender has yet agreed fresh terms.

Former Newcastle favourite Rob Lee has also weighed in on the situation. He believes the club should move swiftly whenever a player no longer wants to remain on Tyneside.

Lee argued that Newcastle must secure the highest possible fee rather than risk another prolonged transfer saga and insisted that only players fully committed to representing the club should remain, emphasising that Newcastle’s stature means there will always be plenty of players eager to wear the black-and-white shirt.
