However, the winger could still leave Rangers, as Nantes, currently battling relegation in Ligue 1 and set to lose Huddersfield loanee Sorba Thomas, have officially approached the club regarding his availability.

The 24-year-old has struggled to make an impact at Ibrox, with just eight appearances and two goals this season.

Following a hamstring injury sustained in September, Matondo has slipped far down the pecking order under manager Philippe Clement.

Many Rangers fans view him as a high-wage player offering little in return.

Given his lack of game time, a move away during the January transfer window appears to be the best solution for all parties involved.
