After years of being linked with the same player, West Ham seem ready to change their focus, despite a continually decreasing transfer fee.
According to Spanish media, West Ham are set to end their pursuit of Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri and instead prioritize Atletico Madrid youngster Samu Omorodion. Sevilla, eager to balance their books by the end of the month, have placed En-Nesyri on the transfer list. The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, drawing interest from West Ham, Aston Villa, and Spurs.
Although West Ham were strong contenders for his signature this summer, manager Julen Lopetegui is not particularly keen on reuniting with the Moroccan striker. Lopetegui and En-Nesyri previously worked together at Sevilla, a partnership that led to a Europa League title. However, the Spanish manager has different plans for bolstering his squad this summer.
West Ham are expected to sign at least six players to shape the team, although that number could decrease if Ben Johnson signs a new deal.
Omorodion has apparently caught Lopetegui’s eye, which is bad news for En-Nesyri and Sevilla. The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Alaves, contributing nine goals in 35 league games to help the Spanish side achieve a mid-table finish.
Despite Sevilla’s desperation to sell their star man to West Ham, it appears to be a case of “thanks but no thanks.”
