Tottenham have kicked off their summer transfer business by securing a significant signing, finalizing a deal to bring in Leeds United prodigy Archie Gray last week. The 18-year-old, highly regarded, commanded a fee of £40m, with centre-back Joe Rodon heading the other direction in a £10m swap. Adding to their youthful acquisitions, Tottenham has also introduced Lucas Bergvall to their ranks, having initially agreed to sign the Swedish wonderkid back in January. They have also welcomed 16-year-old striking sensation George Feeney from Glentoran. Looking ahead, Tottenham remains active in the transfer market, targeting reinforcements in central defense, on the flanks, and in attack. Their pursuit of Crystal Palace standout Eberechi Eze is expected to gain momentum post-Euro 2024. To ensure flexibility in the transfer market and accommodate the desired caliber of signings by manager Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham is exploring several player departures to boost their financial resources. Among those on the exit list is right-back Emerson Royal. The 25-year-old Brazilian has been deemed surplus to requirements, with negotiations for a move to Serie A powerhouse AC Milan rapidly progressing. Insider reports confirm Emerson has agreed to personal terms with Milan, securing a lucrative five-year contract. Emerson is set to earn approximately €3m annually, translating to a weekly wage of £50,000. While personal terms are settled, negotiations over the transfer fee are ongoing. Milan has made an initial bid, the exact amount unspecified but understood to be below Tottenham’s €25m (£21m) valuation. Milan’s offer, believed to be around €20m (£17m), is currently insufficient to meet Tottenham’s asking price. Sky Italia reports indicate a gap between the offer and Tottenham’s demands, suggesting further negotiations are necessary. Despite the disparity, there is optimism that a deal can be reached within the next ten days, marking a critical period for both clubs. Milan values Emerson’s versatility, appreciating his ability to play effectively at both right-back and left-back, despite occasional forays into central defense last season. Despite initial setbacks, Milan remains committed to the transfer, with attention now turning to whether they will submit an improved offer. Should Milan fail to increase their bid, Tottenham faces a dilemma: either adjust their valuation or risk the collapse of the deal. The coming days will reveal whether a compromise can be found, allowing Emerson to make the switch to Milan and Tottenham to progress with their summer rebuilding plans.
