According to reports from TBR Football, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is keen on reuniting Harry Gray with his older brother, Archie, who joined Spurs in the summer for a reported £30 million fee.
Harry, only 15, has yet to make his competitive debut for Leeds United but has shown promise in the club’s youth teams.
He even had the opportunity to play with the first team during pre-season, coming off the bench in Leeds’ 3-0 victory against Harrogate Town.
Last season, Harry Gray broke into Leeds’ U18 side at just 14 but has yet to kick off this season due to a back injury.
Despite his absence, Harry is seen as a player with tremendous potential.
Several top clubs, including Arsenal, Newcastle United, Liverpool, and Chelsea, have shown interest in the young striker in the past.
Leeds, however, will face a tough battle to retain Gray at Elland Road, especially with Tottenham’s interest.
Yet former Leeds player Carlton Palmer remains optimistic that the youngster will stay with the club, at least for the near future.
Carlton Palmer on Spurs’ Interest in Harry Gray
Carlton Palmer, who played 119 matches for Leeds United between 1994 and 1997, believes that Harry Gray’s family ties to the club, along with his young age, make it unlikely he will leave Elland Road anytime soon—despite the lure of playing alongside his brother in North London.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Palmer stated, “Tottenham Hotspur and Ange Postecoglou are focusing on signing young English talent.
They signed Archie Gray from Leeds for £30 million, and he’s already made appearances in the Premier League. They’re now keeping tabs on his younger brother Harry, hoping to reunite him with Archie.”
Palmer acknowledged that moving to a top club like Tottenham at such a young age could be risky, even though Harry has rapidly progressed through Leeds’ youth ranks.
“Harry Gray made his debut for the U18s at 14 and scored in a 4-3 loss to Sunderland last October. Despite missing most of the season, he finished with eight goals in 11 games,” Palmer explained.
Unfortunately, Harry has been sidelined this season due to injury. Palmer continued, “Obviously, the appeal of joining his brother at a big club like Tottenham could tempt Harry.
But the Gray family is deeply connected to Leeds United.
I think they would prefer Harry to complete his development at Leeds, just like his brother did, and build his reputation before making any big decisions.”
Palmer emphasized the importance of regular playing time for young players. “You don’t want to move to a big club and not play.
Archie is already involved with Tottenham’s first team, and that’s what you want as a young player.
If you’re not going to play, you may as well stay at Leeds and get more game time.”
Although he acknowledged that family ties could complicate the situation, Palmer believes Harry will remain at Leeds for years to come.
“It’s tough when brothers are involved, but I think Harry, as a Leeds supporter with deep family roots at the club, will stay for the foreseeable future.”
Losing Harry Gray Would Be a Major Blow for Leeds United
While Harry Gray is unlikely to break into the first team this season, his potential to become a future star is undeniable.
Losing him to Tottenham, especially so soon after Archie’s departure, would be a significant setback for Leeds.
The Gray family name has become synonymous with Leeds United, and Harry leaving would mark the end of that long-standing connection.
More importantly, Harry is likely to get more first-team opportunities at Leeds than at a bigger club like Tottenham.
Staying at Elland Road would allow him to gain valuable experience and progress into the matchday squad before considering a move elsewhere.
For Gray, the last thing he should want is to transfer to a club where his path to the first team is blocked.
He would be wiser to stay in Yorkshire, bide his time, and accumulate senior minutes over the next few years, giving him the best chance to develop his skills and grow into a top-level player.
