Leicester City Begin Search for New Manager Following Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Exit and Premier League Relegation
Chris Wilder could be a strong candidate for the Leicester City job, according to Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman, who discussed the managerial vacancy at the King Power Stadium.
The Foxes are searching for a new head coach after Ruud van Nistelrooy’s recent departure, which followed the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
Wilder is currently available after parting ways with Sheffield United, having failed to secure promotion back to the top flight last season following a play-off final defeat to Sunderland.
Speaking to Football League World, Goodman said: “Chris Wilder still holds a very high reputation, especially at Championship level. Most people feel he was treated unfairly by Sheffield United.”
However, Goodman also pointed to a possible challenge facing Leicester in their managerial hunt — the looming threat of a points deduction.
The club faces charges for three potential breaches of the EFL’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which could result in them beginning the season with a points deficit.
“The question is whether Leicester City remains an attractive job under those circumstances,” Goodman added. “If they aren’t docked points, it becomes a very appealing opportunity.”
He continued: “You’d expect the owners to be eager for an immediate return to the Premier League, and with that in mind, Chris Wilder is definitely a name they should be considering.”
