According to Adam Pope, Leeds United player Jamie Shackleton is garnering interest from Sheffield United and several other clubs this summer.
On June 27, BBC Radio Leeds commentator Adam Pope posted on X, providing an update that Sheffield United is one of the clubs showing interest in Leeds United player Jamie Shackleton. Shackleton’s current contract at Elland Road is set to expire on June 30.
Shackleton is likely to leave the club but, along with captain Liam Cooper, was still in discussions over a potential extension when their retained list was released on June 7, according to LeedsLive.
Currently, Shackleton is free to speak with other clubs about a potential transfer. If he does not accept the deal offered by Leeds, he will become a free agent.
Shackleton’s tenure at Elland Road appears to be coming to an end, despite ongoing discussions about a new deal. Moving on might be the best option for both parties.
Sheffield United, facing financial problems and a two-point deduction for the start of the new season, could benefit from acquiring Shackleton for free, as reported by The Sheffield Star on June 27.
The 24-year-old made only 15 appearances in all competitions last season. Given his versatility, he needs a club where he can secure regular playing time. During his loan spell at Millwall in the 2022-23 season, Shackleton made 36 Championship appearances, his highest in a single campaign, contrasting with his limited role at Leeds under Daniel Farke last season.
While letting Shackleton go wouldn’t bring in any financial compensation for Leeds, it would free up wages and a squad position for a full-back or central midfielder, positions the club likely needs to address this summer, according to The Athletic on June 13.
