Darwin Nunez has struggled at Liverpool, and his departure in the summer transfer window would not be surprising.

Strong links have emerged regarding a move away, coinciding with reports of Premier League leaders Liverpool expressing growing interest in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

Individually, Nunez has endured a difficult season, scoring just seven goals in 40 appearances across all competitions, with only five in the Premier League.

Since his arrival from Benfica in 2022, the Uruguayan has often frustrated fans, and it appears the club’s hierarchy may also be running out of patience.

Even if Nunez leaves Liverpool, he may not leave the Premier League altogether, and an unexpected club has now been tipped as a potential destination for the 25-year-old.

Newcastle Urged to Sign Darwin Nunez

Former footballer Stan Collymore, writing in his exclusive CaughtOffside column, suggested that Newcastle should consider signing Nunez as a replacement for Isak.

“Nunez would be a great fit at Newcastle, and their fans would love him. Newcastle are a huge club, so it wouldn’t feel like a major step down for him.

More importantly, the pressure wouldn’t be as intense.

I also believe Eddie Howe, who I think could become England manager in the future, has the ability to turn Nunez into the player many expected him to be at Liverpool.

“Regardless of what happens, I think Nunez will leave Liverpool this summer.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he moved to Newcastle while Isak went in the opposite direction.

Both clubs might find an agreement that aligns with their respective Financial Fair Play (FFP) situations.”

Newcastle will be keen to keep hold of Isak beyond the summer, but should they fail, a replacement will be essential.

Nunez offers significant potential and could arrive in a similar situation to Isak, who had an underwhelming goal-scoring record at Real Sociedad before his 2022 transfer.
