Conor Chaplin Responds Firmly to Controversial Abdul Fatawu Penalty Incident

Ipswich midfielder Conor Chaplin remains frustrated by the lack of a penalty award during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City, where a controversial decision has left him unsettled.

In a key moment of the match, Chaplin was knocked down in the Leicester box as Abdul Fatawu collided with him.

Just moments later, Kalvin Phillips committed a late challenge on Ricardo Pereira, receiving a second yellow card.

These incidents shaped the game, which ended with City securing a 94th-minute equalizer through Jordan Ayew.

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna expressed his anger over the officiating, calling the decisions “unacceptable.” Chaplin, too, seems unable to shake off the penalty incident.

On Sunday evening, he shared a photo on Instagram capturing the clash with Fatawu, adding a shrugging man emoji to convey his disbelief at the lack of a penalty call.

After the game, McKenna shared his perspective: “Conor moves the ball to his left foot, and the winger charges into him, hitting his stomach as he goes for the shot. I don’t think it’s even debatable.”

Leicester City manager Steve Cooper was asked about the penalty claim and appeared uncertain, saying, “For us or them? I can’t remember. I didn’t see it, sorry… I remember the moment, though.”

While Ipswich fans have voiced frustration over the decision, Leicester supporters pointed out a similar incident from last season’s 1-1 draw between the teams.

In that match, Ipswich’s Cameron Burgess collided with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall as he approached the goal, but no penalty was awarded.
