A potential boost for Lopetegui’s side could come from the arrival of a Premier League veteran currently sidelined by his club.

According to Graeme Bailey of The Boot Room, West Ham has been offered the chance to sign Raheem Sterling.

Sterling’s agent has reportedly been in contact with West Ham after the winger was instructed to train separately from the Chelsea first team.

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca recently confirmed that Sterling has no future with the team, stating via Fabrizio Romano: “I’ve been honest, he will have no minutes here.

I am not saying Raheem is not a good player but I prefer different kinds of wingers. It’s simple.”

This situation opens the door for West Ham to benefit from signing a Premier League winger with significant experience in European football over the past decade.

West Ham Should Pursue Sterling

While it might be a costly endeavor given Sterling’s reported £325,000-a-week salary, West Ham could potentially reap great rewards by taking a chance on the Premier League winner in the final days of the transfer window.

The 29-year-old is one of the most seasoned forwards in English football, boasting 123 Premier League goals and 193 senior goals overall.

If there is an opportunity to secure Sterling’s signature, West Ham should consider making the attempt.

Pep Guardiola praised Sterling’s qualities, noting his consistency, physicality, and finishing ability.

Guardiola remarked via BBC Sport in 2019, after Sterling scored a hat-trick against West Ham: “I know the special qualities of the player, the consistency, physicality, and the finishing.

For the second goal against West Ham, the control was not perfect, but the finish was good.

The third goal was excellent. He is in his early days as a striker, but I believe he could excel in that position; he can play in three attacking roles.”
