Rangers Star Tipped to Leave as Contract Winds Down, Says Pundit

Rangers could see several players depart in the near future, with the contracts of Leon Balogun, Ianis Hagi, and Tom Lawrence all set to expire in the coming months.

Additionally, Vaclav Cerny’s loan spell from Wolfsburg is also nearing its end, although the Light Blues hold an option to make his move permanent.

As a result, director of football Nils Koppen and the recruitment team may already be exploring potential replacements, particularly with interest emerging from other clubs.

Notably, Wrexham have been linked with a move for Lawrence, which may prompt further changes at Ibrox.

Jamie Murphy, currently with Ayr United, believes Wrexham would be a suitable destination for Lawrence if his time at Rangers concludes this summer.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (3 April), Murphy acknowledged the midfielder’s injury troubles this season but praised his ability, referencing his impressive goal in the recent 4-3 win over Dundee at Dens Park.

“Injuries have probably played a part in his limited game time,” Murphy explained. “He’s had some struggles, but when he came on last weekend and scored, it was clear he still has quality.

I’m sure he’ll keep giving his all until the season ends, but there will naturally be a focus on what lies ahead.

If he ends up at Wrexham, that wouldn’t be a bad move for him at all.”

Lawrence’s influence at Ibrox has waned this season, and it seems increasingly likely he will depart when his contract ends.

The Welsh international has fallen out of the starting lineup, and recurring injuries have only added to his challenges.

The arrivals of Mohamed Diomande and Nedim Bajrami have further limited his role in the squad, effectively making him surplus to requirements.

With this in mind, Rangers should prioritize securing Cerny on a permanent basis rather than offering extensions to players like Lawrence.

Cerny, on loan from Wolfsburg, has arguably been one of the standout performers for Rangers this season.

Retaining his services would strengthen the squad as they look to mount a serious challenge against Celtic in the Scottish Premiership next term.

While Lawrence has been a dedicated figure during his time in Glasgow, a parting of ways this summer may serve both the club and the player well, especially as Rangers prepare for what could be a significant reshuffle within the squad.
