West Ham United is thrilled to announce that David Chigwada has officially signed his first professional contract with the club.
On his 17th birthday, Chigwada was joined by his family as he signed the deal at West Ham United’s Chadwell Heath Training Ground.
The young forward joined the Hammers’ Academy from Manchester City, where he initially signed a scholarship deal during the summer.
His impressive goalscoring ability and versatility in various attacking roles for City’s U16 team caught the attention of West Ham, who offered him the chance to further his development at Chadwell Heath.
Chigwada, who grew up south of Manchester, made significant sacrifices to pursue his football ambitions, including changing schools while progressing through the ranks at Blackburn Rovers and then Manchester City.
Now, this journey has culminated in a significant milestone with his first professional contract in East London.
Reflecting on his progress, David remarked, “There have been many sacrifices to reach this point, including moving away from friends, but it’s rewarding to see those efforts paying off. Feeling valued by the Club makes it all worthwhile.”
He added, “I believe I’m adjusting well to my new surroundings. Receiving a scholarship at West Ham was incredibly exciting.
The unique style of play and the passionate fanbase are things I really appreciate. I’m looking forward to the next two years ahead.”
Chigwada began his Academy journey at Blackburn Rovers at the age of 12. His capability to play in various positions along the front line and his proficiency with both feet led to his move to Manchester City.
While at City, he continued to impress, particularly at the Future Cup, an annual youth tournament hosted by Ajax, where he gained international attention with his signature move, which fans dubbed the ‘Chigwada spin.’
Since his transition to East London in the summer, Chigwada has quickly adapted to life at Chadwell Heath, becoming an integral part of Lauris Coggin’s U18s team.
“I aim to be a valuable asset to the team,” he stated. “I want to assist in whatever way the coach deems best and to showcase my abilities and contributions.”
West Ham United Academy Manager Kenny Brown praised Chigwada’s development, saying, “We’re delighted that David has committed to us and is adjusting well.
He is an exciting talent, eager to learn and develop.
Under Lauris and the coaching staff, he is gaining valuable insights and understands the importance of patience.
