David Ornstein: Everton to announce new manager within 24 hours as TFG select ‘Ideal’ candidate.

David Ornstein reports that Everton are poised to appoint David Moyes as Sean Dyche's successor.

On January 10, The Athletic’s journalist took to X to report that The Friedkin Group views David Moyes as the perfect choice to prevent Everton from being relegated.

An official announcement is expected within 24 hours, and Moyes is likely to receive a long-term contract.

Ornstein wrote on X: “David Moyes set to be appointed Everton manager – talks heading towards deal being finalised imminently.

Expected to be announced in next 24hrs. Viewed by TFG as ideal for PL survival + longer-term plans, which Everton contract will reflect.”

While appointing Moyes makes sense for the short term, offering him a long-term deal carries some risks.

He may not be the same manager as during his previous tenure at Goodison Park, and historically, managers often underperform in their second stints with a club.

Moyes’ name was rarely mentioned as a potential candidate before Sean Dyche’s dismissal, suggesting he may have been the easiest option.

Hopefully, The Friedkin Group consulted other candidates before settling on Moyes.

In the short term, Moyes could be an ideal fit, but betting on him for the long-term future could be a gamble.

His appointment is expected to be confirmed before Everton’s Premier League match against Aston Villa on January 15.
