“Deal Could Be Possible” – Spurs Might Look to Secure Championship Star with Player-Plus-Cash Offer in January

Tottenham Hotspur have been grappling with an injury crisis this season, with their goalkeeping department hit particularly hard.

First-choice keeper Guglielmo Vicario has been sidelined since November due to ankle surgery, leaving the club reliant on veteran Fraser Forster.

With Forster’s contract expiring at the end of the season, securing a reliable backup has become a top priority for Spurs.

Former club scout Bryan King has proposed that Tottenham consider including Brandon Austin in a deal to acquire Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson.

Austin, a product of Spurs’ academy, has gained experience through loan spells at Viborg FF and Orlando City.

Despite stepping into the role of backup goalkeeper recently, he has yet to make a significant impact in the first team.

This makes him a potential bargaining chip in negotiations.

Meanwhile, Anthony Patterson has been a standout performer for Sunderland, firmly establishing himself as their first-choice goalkeeper.

The 24-year-old played a key role in the club’s promotion from League One in 2022 and has been in excellent form this season, recording seven clean sheets in 20 Championship appearances.

His composure, consistency, and ability to perform under pressure have cemented his reputation as a rising talent.

While Sunderland may be reluctant to lose a key player, particularly as they push for promotion, a well-structured deal involving cash and Austin could tempt them to reconsider.

Speaking to Tottenham News, Bryan King remarked:

“Tottenham definitely need to sign another goalkeeper. However, signing Patterson in January might be challenging.

Austin doesn’t seem close to getting a chance at Tottenham, so offering him plus cash for Patterson makes sense.

“At the moment, Austin is Spurs’ number two, so including him in a deal for Sunderland’s number one is logical.

But Sunderland, pushing for promotion, may be hesitant to part with one of their main assets.

“Significant money would need to be included, as Sunderland don’t need to sell, but Spurs urgently need a goalkeeper.

If anything happens to Forster, they could face serious problems.”

For Tottenham, signing Patterson would address their immediate concerns and provide a long-term option alongside Vicario.

As Spurs gear up for a challenging second half of the season, securing a dependable goalkeeper could prove vital in maintaining their competitive momentum.
