“Definitely Consider Him”: Rangers Exit Rumored as English Club Predicted to Land “Good Signing” from Ibrox

Like Rabbi Matondo – the Rangers winger who was sidelined for months after a stellar performance with two goals and two assists in a 6-0 victory over Ross County – Tom Lawrence’s extended absence also abruptly halted his promising start to the season.

Lawrence had tallied five goals and two assists before his injury in a 2-1 loss to Aberdeen four months ago.

Now, speculation grows about his future, as Turkey’s Besiktas shows interest in the Welsh international, months after Trabzonspor signed John Lundstram and Borna Barisic.

With his contract expiring this summer, the possibility of Lawrence having played his last game in the Rangers’ blue shirt feels increasingly plausible.

Reports suggest Championship sides Burnley and Sheffield United are also vying for Lawrence’s signature.

The prospect of Premier League football may be enticing for the 31-year-old, particularly with Nedim Bajrami excelling in the number ten role during his absence.

Burnley, who are chasing promotion but struggling offensively as the lowest-scoring team in the Championship’s top five, may see Lawrence as the solution to their attacking woes.

His long-range shooting ability and creativity in tight spaces could add a much-needed spark to their play.

Former EFL striker Clinton Morrison spoke to Football League World, saying, “I saw a lot of Tom Lawrence when he was at Derby.

He’s a good player. It hasn’t really worked out [at Rangers] due to injuries and limited game time.”

Morrison’s assessment might not fully capture Lawrence’s impact at Rangers.

Although injuries limited him to just 56 appearances over two-and-a-half years, the Manchester United academy graduate often impressed when fit, leaving a positive impression on the fans.

If Burnley misses out on Morgan Whittaker, another target currently out of form at Plymouth Argyle, Lawrence could present a viable – albeit high-risk – alternative.

Morrison added, “If a player like that becomes available, you definitely consider him for your squad. It wouldn’t be a bad signing.

If they can’t get Whittaker, Lawrence could be a good option. You don’t turn your nose up at a player like him.”

Rangers, meanwhile, face broader concerns about player retention. Over the last two summers, they’ve lost several key players on free transfers, including Ryan Jack, Ryan Kent, Filip Helander, Allan McGregor, Alfredo Morelos, John Lundstram, and Borna Barisic.

With Lawrence reportedly earning over £20,000 per week, the club might hesitate to offer a new deal to an injury-prone midfielder in his 30s.

As for Rabbi Matondo, a potential move to Coventry appeared imminent before talks stalled.

Meanwhile, Burnley manager Scott Parker continues to weigh his options for attacking reinforcements, with both Lawrence and Whittaker on the radar.

Lawrence’s future, however, remains uncertain, with suitors from England and abroad circling and Rangers seemingly reluctant to commit long-term.
