However, I believe the club should aim higher, targeting top-quality players rather than older, underwhelming options.
West Ham’s recruitment over recent years has been highly questionable, and it appears the trend may continue.
West Ham have been linked with a January move for Crystal Palace midfielder Will Hughes, as reported by Give Me Sport.
While Hughes, at 29, is a decent player, is signing someone for a nominal fee from Palace really the level West Ham aspire to?
This isn’t what fans envisioned when the club moved to a world-class stadium, supposedly to attract world-class talent.
Frankly, I can’t support the idea of signing Hughes. West Ham need to show far more ambition.
The club should focus on identifying and signing young players with immense potential before they become stars, similar to the successful strategies employed by Brighton and Brentford.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to align with West Ham’s current approach.
A move for Hughes would be a predictable, uninspired decision and further evidence that the owners lack the ambition required to elevate the club to the next level.
