Rangers’ hopes of salvaging their Champions League dream were dealt another blow following their 3-1 first-leg defeat to Club Brugge, with further concerns now arising off the pitch.

Reports suggest an opening approach has been made for one of Russell Martin’s most valuable players, adding to the mounting challenges early in his reign.

Their latest proposal, however, was swiftly dismissed by Rangers’ 49ers ownership, who are believed to be holding firm on a £15 million valuation of the striker. Whether Lille are prepared to raise their offer before the window shuts is uncertain.

For Martin, the board’s stance is a relief. Losing Igamane would be a devastating blow, particularly with the Moroccan international only just working back to full match fitness after an interrupted pre-season.

While he is yet to start under the new manager, the 21-year-old is widely tipped to play a pivotal role once he hits his stride.
