“Dismiss it’ – Wenham predicts Tottenham will demand £40m+ for exit-linked star”
John Wenham anticipates Tottenham will seek a transfer fee of £40 million or more for exit-linked star Guglielmo Vicario.
The owner of the well-regarded Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes no Italian club is likely to meet Tottenham’s asking price for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
According to Calciomercato (14 October), Inter Milan has shown interest in Vicario.
Former Spurs scout Bryan King suggested the club would only accept an “outrageous” offer for him.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham speculated on the potential fee.
“Vicario has now settled in at Spurs,” he said. “He’s secured the number one spot and is part of the leadership group.
I don’t think Spurs would actively look to sell him. However, like any player, he has a price, and you’d be looking at £40 million or more.
No Italian club is going to pay that, so you can dismiss those rumors for now. Plus, I don’t believe Tottenham would want to sell him.”
Will Tottenham demand £40 million or more for Guglielmo Vicario?
It seems unlikely that Spurs would allow Vicario to leave.
Although the 28-year-old has faced some challenges this season, prompting calls for manager Ange Postecoglou to intervene, his performances haven’t been concerning enough to justify a sale.
Vicario remains the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, and it’s improbable that Tottenham would want to sell him, which would lead to another costly search for a replacement.
Additionally, Vicario is believed to be content at Tottenham, and there’s speculation that he may push for a new contract to extend his stay.
This outcome would likely be more favorable for Postecoglou than a sale.
With further improvement, Vicario could eliminate some of his errors and establish himself as a top Premier League goalkeeper for years to come.
