Seamus Coleman is unlikely to start a game for at least a month as he undergoes a gradual recovery process, according to an injury expert.
The 36-year-old has made just one league appearance this season, featuring in Everton’s 3-2 defeat against Bournemouth on 31 August, and recently withdrew from the Republic of Ireland squad due to injury.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Dr. Rajpal Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Science, shared insights into Coleman’s situation: “Dyche described the injury as minor, which likely indicates a Grade 2 sprain.
Recovery for this type of injury usually takes two to three weeks.
During rehab, he’ll focus on building strength and mobility before progressing to higher intensity work.
Given his age and the need for caution, he’s unlikely to be ready to start for at least another month.”
Looking ahead, Coleman’s future at Everton remains uncertain.
At 36, returning to peak fitness is a greater challenge, and the club may be reluctant to offer him a new contract next summer for financial reasons.
Retirement from international football could be an option for Coleman to prolong his domestic career, a choice many players his age make.
However, his long-term role at Everton will largely depend on his recovery and performance in the coming months.
