Eddie Howe pushing for £15m striker deal in summer transfer window

Newcastle United could find themselves short of attacking options next season, with Callum Wilson’s future still uncertain.

The 32-year-old’s contract expires this summer, and if he departs, William Osula — who lacks experience — will be the only backup to Alexander Isak in what is expected to be a busy campaign.

Manager Eddie Howe is reportedly eager to strengthen his attacking line and is actively pushing for reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window.

Howe eyes powerful Genk striker

According to Africa Foot, Howe is spearheading the pursuit of Genk’s Toluwalasé Arokodaré, who is currently having an impressive season in Belgium.

The 24-year-old forward has scored 17 goals and provided six assists in 30 league matches — his most productive season since joining Genk from Latvian club Valmiera in 2023.

Before establishing himself in Belgium, Arokodaré had loan spells with FC Köln in Germany and Amiens in France’s Ligue 2 between 2021 and 2023.

Now, he’s emerged as a key figure for Genk and a player attracting growing interest.

Standing nearly 6’5″, Arokodaré brings a strong physical presence and could be an ideal complement to Isak.

With Newcastle set to compete in European football next season, additional attacking depth will be vital.

Arokodaré valued at £15 million

Genk are believed to be asking around £15 million for Arokodaré — a fee Newcastle can likely afford, especially after going three consecutive windows without making a major first-team signing.

Howe is said to admire the Nigerian international, who earned his first cap for the Super Eagles earlier this year.

While the transfer fee seems reasonable, Arokodaré remains unproven at the highest level of European football, which naturally carries some risk.

Whether Howe chooses to prioritize Arokodaré or shifts focus to other targets remains to be seen.

However, it’s clear that strengthening Newcastle’s forward options is high on the agenda as preparations for next season intensify.
