Fabian Schar’s Newcastle United journey may not be over just yet.

When Fabian Schar was forced off injured during the victory over Leeds United, the seriousness of the situation was obvious straight away.
Schar has often shrugged off heavy challenges throughout his time on Tyneside, so the moment he signalled to the bench that he could not continue, it was clear this was no routine knock.
Eddie Howe later confirmed that Schar had been taken to hospital after the match, fuelling fears among supporters that they may have seen the centre-back play his final game for the club.
Some even worried it could spell the end of his career altogether.
Thankfully, those concerns now appear to have been eased, with expectations that Schar will be sidelined for around 12 weeks and could still feature again before the season concludes.

Against that backdrop, it is hardly surprising that reports from The Chronicle suggest there is a strong chance Newcastle will offer the experienced defender a one-year extension despite his age.
Schar recently returned to the starting line-up following another injury setback for Sven Botman and quickly re-established himself, forming a solid partnership alongside Malick Thiaw, who had initially deputised in his absence.
While there will eventually come a point when the club must move on, many supporters feel that time has not yet arrived.
Schar himself has made no secret of his desire to end his career at Newcastle, and there is hope he will be given the opportunity to do so.
His leadership, experience and composure remain valuable assets in a squad balancing youth with reliability, and if managed carefully after his recovery, Schar could still play a meaningful role as Newcastle pursue stability and progress during a demanding campaign this coming season.
