Woyo Coulibaly has brought an end to a difficult spell at Leicester City by securing a season-long loan move to Italian side Sassuolo.

The Malian right-back arrived at the King Power Stadium from Parma in January for £1.5m, but his time in England never truly took off.

Brought in by then-manager Ruud van Nistelrooy as the club struggled with a shortage of full-backs due to Ricardo Pereira’s injury, Coulibaly was expected to provide much-needed cover.

However, he made only five appearances in total, with his last coming as far back as February.

His first and only start came in the home defeat to Brentford, where a shaky display saw him booked early and substituted at half-time. That outing effectively marked the end of his Leicester career, as he failed to feature again.

Since the arrival of new boss Marti Cifuentes, he has slipped further down the pecking order behind Pereira, Hamza Choudhury, Luke Thomas, and youngster Bade Aluko.

Now, the 25-year-old will look to revive his career in familiar territory. Sassuolo, recently promoted back to Serie A, are in need of reinforcements after suffering consecutive defeats to Napoli and Cremonese. For Coulibaly, it represents a much-needed fresh start.
