Enzo Maresca’s praise for Leicester City’s ‘brilliant’ star is the strongest hint yet that Chelsea will pursue him this summer – Opinion

Enzo Maresca reunited with Leicester City as his Chelsea side triumphed over the Foxes at Stamford Bridge.

Despite several Leicester City players impressing against Chelsea, the Blues secured the victory, with Marc Cucurella’s second-half goal proving decisive.

Before the match, Enzo Maresca admitted that he still keeps in touch with some Leicester players and warmly greeted several of them at full-time.

He also acknowledged the traveling Foxes supporters.

However, the same reception was not extended to Wesley Fofana, who was met with boos from the away fans, accompanied by an explicit chant directed at the French defender.

One player, in particular, stood out to Maresca, and the former Leicester boss was full of praise for him.

Mads Hermansen was undoubtedly the standout player for Leicester. The Danish goalkeeper delivered an impressive performance, earning praise from Mark Schwarzer after saving Cole Palmer’s penalty.

That save ended Palmer’s flawless record from the penalty spot since turning professional.

Without Hermansen’s heroics, Chelsea might have extended their lead.

While Luke Thomas also put in a strong display for Leicester, it was Hermansen who received special recognition from Maresca.

Speaking to Match of the Day, Maresca said:

*”We had to change our plan before the warm-up, which is why we are so pleased—we adapted well.

Don’t forget, Leicester held Arsenal to 0-0 for 80 minutes. It’s not easy. We created enough chances to be ahead.

“The Leicester keeper is brilliant. Cole will score more penalties and miss some, but that’s football.”

Chelsea Emerging as a Potential Destination for Hermansen

The Denmark international is expected to be among the Leicester players departing in the summer, given his quality and value.

Maresca had already identified Hermansen as a target last summer.

Now, with Chelsea facing goalkeeping issues, Maresca’s comments suggest that the Leicester shot-stopper could be high on his list of potential recruits.

A move to Stamford Bridge seems like a perfect fit for both parties.

While other clubs may show interest, Chelsea’s offer of Champions League football, a familiar manager, and the prospect of being the first-choice goalkeeper would be difficult for Hermansen to refuse.
