Cerny's Ibrox Future Hangs in the Balance as Loan Nears Conclusion
Czech international Vaclav Cerny has been one of Rangers’ standout performers this season, scoring 17 goals and registering seven assists in 49 appearances across all competitions.
The 27-year-old winger is nearing the end of his season-long loan from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, with less than two months remaining on his current deal at Ibrox.
Despite Cerny’s contributions, Rangers are yet to make a decision on his future.
This uncertainty comes at a time when the club is undergoing significant changes, including a potential takeover led by Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe.
Rangers do have an option to make Cerny’s move permanent for a cut-price fee of £5.5 million—an agreement previously reached with Wolfsburg.
However, this clause must be triggered before the end of May. After that deadline, the fee could more than double, putting the Scottish side under pressure to act quickly.
The situation has been further complicated by interest from Turkish giants Besiktas.
According to Takvim (7 May), Besiktas have already initiated contact regarding a move for Cerny and are eager to continue negotiations.
The club, now managed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has reportedly made Cerny a top transfer target for the upcoming window following his strong displays in Scotland.
Takvim also reports that “concrete developments” are expected soon as Besiktas push ahead with efforts to secure his signature.
Meanwhile, Rangers’ ability to complete the deal could be hindered by their ongoing ownership transition.
The takeover by the 49ers Enterprises consortium—led by Cavenagh and Marathe—aims to secure a 51% controlling stake in the club.
However, the deal may not be finalized until mid-June.
This delay may be the reason behind Rangers’ current hesitation to commit to Cerny, despite the player’s desire to remain in Glasgow.
If the club waits too long to act, they risk losing the winger to Besiktas or another suitor, potentially missing out on one of their most impactful players from this season.
The coming weeks will be crucial in determining where Cerny will play next season.
