Ridvan Yilmaz joined Rangers from the Istanbul club in the summer of 2022, and Besiktas have been keen to re-sign him to strengthen their squad in recent months.

Besiktas have decided to end their interest in the Turkish defender after Rangers reportedly demanded around £4million for a permanent transfer, according to NTV Spor.

The news outlet revealed (6 February) that the Super Lig club is no longer pursuing Yilmaz due to the Glasgow side’s price tag.

While Besiktas had shown interest, they have now shifted their focus to other targets.

Philippe Clement will likely be pleased to have the 23-year-old remain at Ibrox until the season’s end.

With several important fixtures ahead, Rangers will need a full squad to compete across all competitions.

Jefte has been the primary left-back this season, but the Brazilian has potential to move on in the future.

Clement has utilized Yilmaz in recent matches, even deploying him at right-back during James Tavernier’s injury absence, though Tavernier has since returned.

The 23-year-old has also played further forward at times this season, as the Belgian manager has dealt with injuries and selection dilemmas.

Given this, it’s not surprising that Yilmaz has been linked with an exit, but he could still play an important role for Rangers in their Europa League and Scottish Cup campaigns.

Yilmaz appeared to be returning to Clement’s plans recently, although fitness issues have plagued him this season.

The club would be wise to keep the defender through the coming months and reassess his future next summer if needed.
